One more champion in our blog! It's a privilege to have Angela McMillan!!!
-Full name: Angela McMillan
-Where are you from? New Zeland
-When you started in Aerobic Gymnastics? And
why you chose it? “I started Aerobics in 1994 at the age of
13. School Aerobics had just started in NZL and it looked like fun so a friend
put me together with a trio with and two other girls.”
-How many years you had been competing? “I competed for 17 years.”
-Do you practice or have practiced some other
sport? “Before Aerobics I was practicing dance, specifically Classical Ballet.”
-How many hours you used to training? “Training
varied from 2 hours/day to 4-5 hours/day, 6 days/week.”
-Who inspired you in aerobic? “Many
athletes inspired me for many different reasons. Most of them probably very
early on. Mostly the top male and female individuals. But I must say the most
inspirational has come my coaches and family.”
-Which was the most important
presentation/competition in your life? Why? “Most important? Every competition for
me was the most important but if i had to say one it would be 2010 Suzuki
World, FIG World, ANAC Championships. Only because they would be my LAST competition
ever. So for me to do my best was the most important. Another goal was to be
World Games Champion which never happened for me, both Games had challenges to
overcome myself and with those challenges success came in other ways.”
-Do you had some superstition before the
presentations? “I don't really have any superstitions but I
always put the same shoe on first: my left shoe. I will always wear the same
competition tights and socks. I am not a big fan of change with small details.”
-Are you still working with aerobic? Tell us a
little about your beautiful work: “Yes I am still working in Aerobics. Right
now I am the Hanoi Aerobic coach. I have a lovely team of 15 athletes from ages
8-20. I have been here for 3 years now and it has come with its challenges
along with joy. I was able to take a team to 2012 World Championships and we
also gained medals at Suzuki World Cup. I am looking forward to the next World
Championships. A different country, culture, something athletes and coaches
have both had to overcome.”
-What is your expectations related with aerobic
gymnastics for the coming years? “My goal for the coming years as a coach is
to bring a dream come true for other athletes. I love to see development and
growth not only as athletes but as people too. My family, friends and coaches
have played a large role in the success of my life and I want to be able to
share that with others.”
-Leave a message to encourage Roypim and Desi
for the 2013 World Games: “I wish everyone the best of luck for the
WORLD GAMES. For Desi and Roypim being the first time athletes in a small
Aerobic county is a huge deal (I too am the only Aerobic athlete from NZL to
compete at World Games) and I wish them and everyone else the best of luck and
success.”
Thank you, Angela!!!
